Bee Nest

Thursday, May 21, 2009

"There are so many bees are in my apartment," Mrs Htoh sounded distressed over the phone. "They are making a nest in my woofer. What can I do?"

I was surprised that bees would as she lived on the 16th floor of the HDB apartment. I said, "Use smoke to drive them out of your apartment."

"Where do you find smoke?" she asked. "I dare not enter the bedroom as the bees might sting me."

"Do you have joss sticks at home?" I asked. "Just light the joss sticks and the smoke will drive the bees out of the room. I will make a house-call."

Mrs Htoh placed 4 joss sticks in a glass container and placed them on the table near her audio-equipment. The bees were not bothered when I visited her.

Around 20 bees were busy flying near her audio equipment. The smoke did not bother them. Why? I noted that the breeze came from the window towards the main door of the master bedroom and out to the living room window. Therefore, the bluish smoke floated in a line away from the bees. My suggestion was not effective. Mrs Htoh dared not enter the room as she would not want to be stung by yellow-blackish bodied bees.
